How do I get info about a deceased person for free

Does anyone know a free ( by way of website search ) way to find out the date of death of someone & their age at death. That's all I need.
I know the name & last address but am struggling to find the info. All the sites I've tried let you input the info then ask you to subscribe for ££.
Is there any way of getting this info for free ?

Thanks. Just had a look, it's up to 1983. I think this death was between 1993 and 2007 so still hoping someone can point me toward another site.0 -
I did a search online for Kent and couldn't get a result inside the web page so phoned up the county council, their dates went up to 1992 ( I think) they transfered me to the register office and a nice lady did a search while I was on the phone.0

I might give the Council a call on Monday, I've found the right department. I've still got a feeling they might need a more precise date of death to search - 1993 to 2007 is a big time span.
Anyone else have any suggestions ?0 -
I also did a search of the births marriages deaths announcements online for all the Kent newspapers. Didn't find anything but it was worth a go.0

you can have a good poke around this search page before you have to start paying for details.
Find my past.com website
This site includes an online version of the General Register Office (GRO) indexes of Births, Marriages & Deaths for England & Wales from 1837 to 2001. The 1837 to 1983 section contains scanned images of the indexes (the same as the ones you will see at the Family Records Centre) and the 1984 to date section is in a database format. There is a direct link to the GRO certificate ordering site. 1837online is a pay-per-view site - the basic charge is 10 pence per image view with a minimum charge of £5.0 -
You can search the indexes on ancestry.co.uk from 1984 - 2005. I am sure you just have to register to search BMD indexes. If you need any help PM me.0
