too scared to do what debt ref agency told me to do. has anyone else done this:......

i am in big poo. i have amassed debts of up to 25.000 which i cannot now pay. i have contacted a debt agency (not one thats wants paying) and they suggested i open a new bank account(as i have loan with present bank) and have wages paid in to it. then i write letters to my creditors explianing that i cannot pay at the moment and i will pay them £1.00 a month until i am in better position to pay. i did go and try to open a bank account but being generally an honest person i said yes when they asked if i already had a bank account. lady said i could not open a basic account with them then. i got all embarrassed and practically ran out of the bank with my identification documents. that was two weeks ago and i am just ignoring the mounting debts at present. should i be going in and opening an account and lying about already having an account. i didn't think you get away with this sort of thing nowadays. big brother watching you and all that. well if your still reading this and havent dropped off to sleep has anyone else done this. from someone who has never been stressed in but now cannot think of anything else but loosing her home not being able to pay for my or the dog food next month.
morgage 58000.00. 7.0%. G E money 24500.00 12.5%

    Alex,

you are in the right place. Take a deep breath and count to ten. There will be lots of very helpful and supportive people along very soon to help you out.
It is never too late to become what you were always intended to be
  • First of all, don't panic. I know you think it seems utterly hopeless now, but there *is* a way out of this, there's always a solution.

I don't have any experience of this sort of situation, so i can't advise you, i'm sorry. BUT there's lots of people on here that will be able to help. You just sit tight for a moment and i'm sure someone will be along soon with some advice.

    !!!!{BIG hugs}}} :)
Why is there always so much month left at the end of my money?
  • Hi Alex, when you spoke to the debt agency was it payplan or CCCS -they are very good and have helped many people on here. You are allowed to open another bank account there is nothing morally wrong with having two bank accounts -it might have been that banks policy not to allow you to do so. I have two current accounts with different banks - one pays the bills the other is home for my spending money. Remember you are not alone on here and you'll pick up some fantastic advise as well. Once you feel ready then post your SOA - statement of affairs - use Martins budget planner to help you and you'll be amased at the advice you'll get from people on here. No one will think you're stupid hun far from it -the stupid thing is to ignore it and you're so obviously not.

OK, i'm with ya, been there. Dont panic. Which bank are you with? Which bank did you try to open an account with? You have to be careful which bank you choose as they may be linked to your creditors. Contact your creiditors by email and tell them you entering a DMP ?? with Payplan/CCCS?? and give them the ref no. If you have any more doubts contact your case officer and/or post them here. Keep it coming here though!

    Hi Alex,

There is no reason to lie if you they ask you if you have another account. Thats what I done when I had to move accounts because of my debts.

You are allowed to have 1 or more accounts you know. They may ask if you will be getting your wages paid in etc. You don't have to tell them you are moving because of debt. (Thats your business )

Just give them the mushroom treatment, keep them in the dark and feed them s**t.

    Regards

  • thought you could have as many bank accounts as needed - what about a standard building society account for your wages? you can still set up direct debits and I have a link cashpoint card with mine and the best thing you can only spend what you have available - no overdraft facilities!! I'm a newbie and in schtuck as well so you're with the best people they're great and have lots of sound advice. please keep posting we're all here for you.

  • http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/cgi-bin/viewnews.cgi?newsid1089226742,17582, That should link you to Martin article on budgeting then you'll find the budget planner there.

You might want to check out the current account section on the board to look for a basic current account. As Farquarpigmix said give them the mushroom treatment. All you need to say is you'd like to open a current account with them and yes your wages will be paid into them. You are doing nothing wrong.
