Should I get a mortgage?

Hi newly registered to the site but I have been reading information on the forums for over a year now.
My question to you all is should I get a mortgage now or carry on saving til the end of the year and get one then?
I am a contractor so the rates are not the best.
Any advice is greatly appreciated.
