Marg2k8..:eek: that is shocking for the company to let slip of your personal details. I would definately put a letter of complaint in to the company about it though, I'm sure it was a mistake but even so you deserve a written appology. Thankfully it was brought to your attention by some good, honest mse'rs.

Thanks wingobins. I shall think over the weekend of what to do. I certainly hope that they put a system in place to prevent this sort of thing happening to someone else.

I won the previous competition for the same stuff ages back in September (hints & things was the site - the company were X-it ) - I had a lot of emailing back and forward from a guy called Adam as people didn't get the emails etc

sounds like they need to sort out the admin side!!!

Perhaps all 5 winners were msers - hope you at least get an apology!

Just thought I would update everybody. I left it until today to email both this guy Adam, who sent out the offending email and June at Hints and Things. The reason that I waited so long was because I wanted to wait until I had calmed down a bit and could be rational about it, rather than just getting abusive to them.

I have not yet heard back from Adam, but I would not have expected to, as it is bank holiday weekend, but I have already heard back from June at Hints and Things and she is as horrifed as I am about what has happened. She has been communicating with me at lenght about it and she too will be voicing her concerns to the company that handled this competition for them.

Having done some searching on the web, I have decided that if I am not reassured that they have taken measures to prevent this type of thing happening again, then I will contact the Information Commissioners Office, as they have the power to make companies like this tighten up their procedures.

Hope everyone is enjoying this Bank Holiday Monday.

I don't blame you for taking some action Marg2k8, I would have done exactly the same as you. I hope he has a really good explanation for what happened because it is totally unacceptable. Horrifying stuff :eek:

I got a full apology from Adam. June at Hints and Things took him to task too. I will keep going back to Hints and Things now, not only to enter competitions, but also just to have a mooch around. I don't think that I will be entering any more X-it competitions however LOL.
