visited hygenist now my teeth hurt?

I know there are some really helpful people on here so I was hoping someone could help me out with dentist query.
A couple of weeks ago i had my teeth cleaned and polished by hygenist at the dentist. The appointment was 20 mins, but she was only working on my teeth for about 15 mins. While she was working on the back of my lower front teeth, it was a bit painful but the rest felt ok.
Since the appointment, quite often when i clean my teeth my gums bleed, which they never used to do before (i am trying to brush as gently as possible now). But my main concern is that my teeth constantly hurt and and feel super sensitive, especially the lower front ones. So what i was wondering is, is it possible that she damaged my teeth at all, or is the pain likely to just be a coincidence?
I don't want to start accusing the hygenist of damaging my teeth if it wasn't her, but equally i don't want to have to put up with pain or pay to correct a problem caused by the hygenist not doing her job properly!
Thanks in advance for your help and commments.

I experienced sensitivity and bleeding after my first appointment. Basically the removal of built up tartar leaves the teeth sensitive, but will eventually (week or so) get back to normal. I contacted my hygenist and she gave me some gel to put on my gums which helped with the sensitivity.Grocery challenge year budget €3K Jan €190 Feb €225 Mar €313 Apr €202 May €224 June €329 July €518 Aug €231Sep €389 Oct €314 Nov €358 Dec €335 Total spent €3628

Thanks flossyblog, i'm glad it is normal. I will speak to my dentist about getting some gel (hygenist is only there two mornings a month).0

You could try sensodyne toothpaste in the meantime.0

Dont be gentle when brushing your teeth. you should be trying to push the gums down, a bit like your cuticles when doing your nails. when your gums toughen up the bleeding will stop and you will have a much healthier mouth. - I know I've been through the same experince.0

Couldn't put it any better than whats already been said.
You might find that your 20 min appointment was 15 min long as it takes about 5 minutes to clean down the surgery after each patient has been in and to set up for the next one.
Or perhap you only needed 15 min?:money: Thankyou, thankyou, thankyou to everyone who has helped.0 -
Slightly alter Worried Jims advice.
He correct in saying you shouldn't be brushing too gentley, but i wouldn't be brushing too hard either as that will cause the gums to shrink in the long term.
Either brush in circles or hold the bristles of the toothbrush at a 45degree angle to the gums and brush towards the tip of the tooth.:money: Thankyou, thankyou, thankyou to everyone who has helped.0 -
Try the toothpaste from the dentist surgery.. its the best better than any out of the supermarket..its made of mostly flouride which helps your teeth... costs £5 but its a god send...
I visited the Hygienist at the Dental Surgery last week and a bit of my tooth has fell off! Possibly all her cleaning may have caused a wee fracture to get worse... however I have since been to the dentist for a filling which was £14.50 odds then that fell out so went back and he did another... Including the bill for the hygienist I have been £34.50 in the last two weeks.... wish I didn't go in the first place... lol
- pay off debts- finally started to

I had a quick scale and polish from my ortho on the 5th of March and my teeth are killing me, really sensitive, been taking painkillers every day...and I have an appointment on the 23rd of this month to get my dentist to give me another one because the ortho missed some glue from my brace removal.
The thought of them touching my teeth though is not good!!!
Good luck...I feel your pain! You may walk and you may run
You leave your footprints all around the sun
And every time the storm and the soul wars come
You just keep on walking0 -
I had a trip to see my hygenist only yesterday. I needed to have a deep clean due to pockets of infection in my gums.I was pretty nervous but whilst not exactly pleasant it really didn't cause any major pain. My lower gums were a little sensitive last night but nothing too painful. I had a wisdom tooth removed a couple of weeks ago and that was less painful than the deep cleaning. I've been taught how to use my electric tooth brush properly plus I've been shown how to use the little brushes to clean between my teeth. I dread the thought of being toothless so I'm certainly going to take better care. Think if you're still in pain, I'd make an appointment to go back asap and explain the problems you're having. Good luck and hope you're soon pain free.0
