Effectively joint - salaries paid into offset account linked to mortgage . Still got separate accounts with different banks for some items but shrinking as we transfer bills.

Its nice though to have a separate account for pressies however SWMBO is an accountant so she does number crunching and sees what I've spent anyway !

My husband and I had joint everything until 1 year ago. Because I got into debt - MY credit card and MY loan through LTSB who we banked with, my husband lost his credit score. I thought as they were only in my name they were my business but not a bit of it.
I then found out just what joint means - I get into debt, he suffers too. We were in a terrible state, all because of me. Now banking separately but how do I get through to the bank and anyone else I deal with that we are not JOINT anymore? It seems we are over a barrel whatever we do and I wish I had had my own account years ago. No more joint banking. The only thing in joint names is the Mortgagefor obvious reasons.

We both get paid into our own current accounts. We then transfer a set amount each into a joint account that pays all bills, petrol food etc, this never goes overdrawn and we change the amounts as necessary..This is roughly the same aamount ,as we earn similar wages, but it would be pro rata if there was a huge gap.We then leave ourselves some pocket money each ( both the same amount)

This is exactly what we do - been doing this for 12 months now and its been the best thing we've ever done.

We have separate accounts, and the money in there is ours to do with as we wish (though I am currently still paying off remnants of graduate overdraft). However, since we moved in together our salaries have been paid into a joint account, which is where all our spending comes from. As I do all the banking, bill paying etc (and seem to be the only one who takes a means of payment out with them when we go shopping!) it makes sense that I have access to everything.

Anyway, I earn more but if I had loads of money left after I'd paid my share of the bills, who else would I want to go out and enjoy it with?

We have completely seperate finances. After all the necessary bills are paid, whats left is ours to do what we like with.

I pay Mortgage, council tax ,all car related stuff, Sky and do the savings for the future. All big purchases we talk over and i generally put up the finaces for.
She pays utilities, broadband and food.

Have a joint account?? The way she spends money my little heart would never take it. When he went there 'the cupboard was bare!!'.
Is the glass half full, or half empty??

We both have separate current accounts. I am the organised one so my bf pays 50% of household expenses/shopping money into my account each payday & I pay all bills, food shopping etc from my current account. Then he knows what he has left to spend as do I, & I can be happy with my spread sheets of expenses, ING "pots" of savings for different things etc, etc!

me and my husband are completely joint even though I have always earnt less and for the past 5.5 yrs I haven't worked because I have been raising our boys. I even moan to him about him spending money and he does n't mind his is a angel :A . but I must add if he did moan I would swiftly poitn out that if he paid for a childminder, cook, cleaner, personal orginiser, cheif, haridresser and sex slave he would owe me a lot more than he earns monthly. So we are both happy, married 7.5 years and no itch in site, we wouldn't have it any other way no matter who was working or who was earning more. we are a team! ( very corny but true)

  • Hello

Me and the OH have separate accounts into which our salaries are paid (hers small, mine larger as she is only working 2 days a week while children are young). I deal with all of the bills without exception. Once all of the bills are paid and other expenditures on our joint credit card taken care of in the month, anything that is left over is split equally up to £200 each for us to spend on whatever we want that is personal the next month. If there is anything over £200 each, then it is split equally into our ISA accounts. It works well for us, but only because OH trusts me implicitly to be fair!
