Yes.....ESA has 2 options one is means tested & the other is `contribution` based & is not means tested......you want the contribution option as you have paid tax & NI in your current job so will be eligible. It sort of replaces SSP.
Hope that helps.0 -
Hi c74,
We are just starting out on the process of going BR and i to was really concerned about finding accomadation because our credit rating is terrible even before BR and also because we have a few pets but someone on here suggested looking on gumtree and being honest with them..well i did and i emailed a few and have so far been offered two homes by two lovely people that had nothing but sympathy for us and im pretty sure one of these houses we are going to take it seems perfect, there was no hassle about credit checking, no silly upfront rents to pay just 1 mth in advance and 1 mth for deposit and 1 of them just asked if it possible for someone to be gaurantor, so a couple of days ago i was certain we wouldnt find a home and now it looks like i have the little cottage in a village i always dreamed of lol0 -
In case the OP is wondering where my posts have gone. I gave you an awful, awful lot of suggestion where your renting situation was concerned, but I never got thanked by you for it, just ignored. I didn't have to give it to you - and many out here, don't even get half of that help - but I gave it freely because you seemed to be in a stressful state and needed urgent help. So, just in case anyone else was wondering why I took out all my posts in here, that's why.
I wish you well with whatever you do next but do remember those who have helped you along the way because they do so freely in life, and don't ask for anything in return except a nice 'thank you' or acknowledgement of that.
I know I may be making a big deal out of this over nothing but I noted you had thanked everyone else on here except me. Again, I didn't have to give you any advice on the LETSURE, estate agents stuff.
Just saying, don't forget the people who do bother to help you.Any help, opinions, views I may hold those are my own. Respect them as you would expect the same in return. Offered freely, is gleaned from a lifetime of experiences, knowledge gaining. Passed on to benefit others. I may be direct, ask you questions but those are to help you. Up to you if you choose to take it. I won't judge you either way.

maybe it was just a oversight on her behalf. i'm sure it wasn't intentionalOfficially BR at 2.10pm on 6th May 2009, ED 7th December 2009

I've found that private landlords are using Tenant Verify (http://www.tenantverify.co.uk/), a service which LLs can use to check your credit file. I was refused by a private LL even though I had told them I had a bad credit history and even offered 6 months rent in advance.
I've gone to Estate Agents and been straight with them and none of them have refused me (yet). The problem I have is my two dogs. Most LLs don't like pets!"What does not kill you makes you stronger"0 -
I would like to thank everyone for their time and advise, and am very sad that I have apparently caused one member so much offence by not hitting thank you button.
I came on this forum for some support, life is stressful enough at the moment without being judged by a stranger for not hitting a button even though I thanked them in person. I have written to this individual to apologise for any offencecaused, I can assure you it was not intentional.
So thank you everyone for your time and advice, and sorry if I hurt anyones feelings, I am not sure that I will be back as I do not wish anymore stress for me or anyone else.
Be blessed in all you do!0 -
Hey c74
Please do come back....sometimes its not easy to make those first few posts but you have taken that first step & don`t feel bad at all. Everyone here is at different stages & will share their experiences in the hope that it will help others on their journeys at very difficult times.
If you stay around you will learn so much & be so much more confident on dealing with your situation.. This debt stuff is something you have to experience to understand which is why so many of us give our time so freely. I personally don`t do it for the thanks but it is lovely when we get it....but please, please don`t worry about it Honey.

Don't let someone upset you. If you need support/advice then stay - you are most welcome to.
In case Merlin or anyone else doesn't realise - sometimes when you want to hit the thanks button it isn't there. I know I've wanted to thank people who have just posted and sometimes it takes a while for the button to come up, and that is usually after I've moved on to the next thread. This could have happened to the OP.
Also, I personally don't come on here for the thanks.
