Perhaps they do - because they are usually brilliant at offering to spend other peoples money.

and now posted for all those who didn't know me a link as to how to find me - with a warning to not annoy people on here. You're not stupid. You know what you're doing.

To set the record straight, that was a link to your blog. I purposefully avoided posting a link which had photos and your contact details.

If you have a blog under your own name, and post under your own name, then it is you who put yourself in the public domain - not me.

I would be VERY careful encouraging the tin foil hatters around here Nick.

A Conservative Party Councillor such as yourself is bound to take a Tory position. That is fair enough, but perhaps it would be a good idea to be more transparent about it?

You know something? I am most definitely not a Tory, and I totally dissaprove of tax fiddling (whether legal or not:D) on moral grounds. However, I dissaprove of your extremely unkind and unreasonable action in posting the link that you did in this thread and suggest that any decent person would be very quick to remove it.

Nickmason never pretended to be anyone but who he was: which makes a bit of a change on MSE! Your behaviour is unwarranted and smacks of malice rather than debate.

I think you should be very ashamed of yourself on this occasion, not because of your opinions but because your actions smack of the general air of smearing that is so tiresome in todays politics.

I posted a link to his blog. His blog, which HE put in the public domain to air HIS views under HIS own name. To claim I have somehow "outed" him is frankly ridiculous.

With respect, a smear is only a smear if it is actually untrue.

However, I will now remove the link if it causes offence.

Somehow I don't think that likely though do you?;)

It struck me this morning that this is actually a reflection of the poitical games we see. Did any one think ''within the rules'' and the ''spirit of the rules'' while thinking about this?

Perhaps we really do need tighter guidlenes on how people should behave. TBH I'm disappointed no apology for poor form was forthcoming.

Had he linked to his blog himself then that would have been acceptable imo, but it is not acceptable to me that someone else should do so since the gentleman does not appear to have done anything which needs his political position called into question.

I would have to say that I consider he was somewhat naive in coming to MSE under his own name since that makes it difficult to protect oneself from the less sane on the forum. However, that naivety does not mean that he deserves to have his blog linked to without his permission, imo.

I think I found it particularly concerning as we unfortunately recently lost NDG from the forum because she had made herself too identifiable and was threatened and upset by the lunatic fringe, and I should hate to see MSE end up loosing any more of the more erudite and intelligent posters over similar circumstances. I would hate that even if it meant that all the remaining posters shared my own political views because we need to constantly re-evaluate our opinions and sometimes even moderate them in order to improve our society and this cannot be done if only one viewpoint is considered acceptable.

With respect, a smear can be about something that is true but which appears bad because of the way it is represented/misrepresented.

Thank you for removing the link: I usually find your posting lucid and informed so will put this down to a minor slip in good taste:D
