Please help. I've tried searching the site for info but to no avail - I could be up for the next two days searching.
Basically, this woman wrote a book about living for a period of time on £1 a day. She was saving to buy a wedding present for her brother and due to her frugal existence was able to buy a lifetime membership for her brother and new sister-in-law for the NTS or RSPB or something like that. Apparently she has written a book on how she survived this - general tips that come up on this board were used like buying reduced food at the supermarket, but also other things she did like she ate free when she could by going to events through work or whatever where buffets were put on.
Does anybody have any idea what this book is called or who it's by?

i heard her on 5 live when the book was released and i think its more about her selling a book and making money rather than practical things we can all do. for example she did not include her rent or bills in that figure. so she lived on a £1 a day by buying reduced food from a supermarket. but she only worked part time and was able to cycle in so no commuter or lunch costs there. she also lived in bristol so there were free art events (museums) etc to go to which she could get to easily. the rest of us could not live on just a £1 a day as in reality she didnt even herself so i think it is probably just a way for her to earn money.0 -
I'll be honest Snowy I wasn't overly impressed with it..it was ok but many of the ideas were sort of recycled from here and things we already know. Maybe see if you can get it out from the library??0

I got this book from the library and wasn't overkeen either. She ate out of date stuff but some of the cominations were digestives with cream cheese and similar. Don't fancy it really. Plus she did a lot of hitch hiking which I don't fancy either.
She did admit that it would be difficult to do with kids (!) I would say impossible.
Worth a read but I wouldn't buy it, get it from the library.Save £12k in 2012 no.49 £10,250/£12,000

Thanks guys!!! :A I've just been really curious as to how she did it as at the mo. I'm saving for a wedding and a new house with the fiance. I can't see how she'd do it because of things like rent, bills, running the car to get to work and at least eating healthily etc. Have already taken on board and do a lot of old-style hints and tips but would always welcome more and have managed to save quite a bit for the bridal kitty!!! :j Will go and have a look at the library today. Thanks again guys!:j I feel I am diagonally parked in a parallel universe :j0
