If it doesn't have to be brand new but you still want some kind of guarentee, you could look on the Apple site. They often have reconditioned Mac Books/Mac Air etc, starting at around the £700 mark.
I was on there yesterday & they seemed to have quite a few.

Do you know any students or are you enrolled at a college for a course at all? Apple do brilliant student discount on certain items. I might even be worth signing up for a cheap evening course to get the discount!

Apple also do discount for the military - not as good as the student discount though. We've just bought ours through my bro - in- law higher ed (Uni) discount was a little higher than college (apparently). My hubby is in the RAF and it was better to go through the student route.
If you buy through JL, sign up to their credit card, buy it on there. You get points for spends and then a few times a year they give you vouchers to spend in store. You get double points for purchases within JL itself.
Be rewarded as you shop- Earn 1 point for every £1 you spend at John Lewis (in branches, online or by catalogue) or Waitrose shops or at Ocado.com
- Earn 1 point for every £2 you spend everywhere else
- Every 500 points you earn is worth £5, which we'll convert into vouchers for you
- Exclusive access to a range of partnership cardholder events and special offers
Hope you get sorted

Get applecare from ebay though, its a lot cheaper and works fine. My macbook, not pro: got applecare for £85, £200 at apple. And so far have had £500 worth of repairs past the 2nd year.0
