Voluntary termination with Welcome Finance

In Dec 08 my partner contacted welcome to terminate his car finance agreement by returning the car. On reading the terms and conditions and on speaking to an advisor at welcome he was told/believed that as over half the term agreement had elapsed then nothing more would have to be paid. Couple of weeks later while organising for the car to be collected he was told that he would have to pay just under £600 in insurances. After collection of the car he was told he would need to pay a further £600 for what we believe is something to do with the valuation of the car but we are not sure as no one seems to be able to tell us or send us the information about the account. He was told to cancel his direct debit after the car was collected which of course he did. But now they are demanding the money be paid asap although they have not sent us any paperwork about what is to be paid and every time we speak to someone the amount differs. We believe that there is a case for reclaiming on his ppi as he was told that he would have to take it out because he had debts so we have sort the letter today to see what they say. But does anyone have any advice about whether £600 for insurances is something that should be paid. We do not believe that there is anything to pay and we also believe the car was worth more than what was remaining of the agreement.

If you have PPI then it's not part of the HP deal.. you need to settle this.0

We have been trying to sort it but no one seems to want to discuss it they just want the money and even though we have explained that we don't believe that we need to pay anything and that we won't pay till we have all the documentation they just say pay some money then we will send the info. There is about £3000 that we could hopefully get back for the PPI although I am not holding my breathe that it would be solved easily.0
