Housing benefit claim.....

Hey guys,
Really need some help if you can with the below questions:
1) If I claim for housing benefit will my Landlord find out?
2) My girlfriend is a full time student (I am currently unemployed), will this effect my claim?
3) My girlfriend is a student and we currently don’t pay council tax ( I know it is not completely correct however we need to save money in these times). If I put in the claim for housing benefit will the council find out I am living there and not paying anything?
I would love your opinions and advice.
Look forward to your replies.
Many Thanks
Bromarc

Well thats got my back up for starters!! I am the mug who works b***** hard to pay my way rent, c'tax, bills etc while someone else fraudulently claims theirs out of the money I pay in taxes!!! You are not the only people who need to save money.......I would quite like to aswell but after paying my way there is nothing left, so for me the notion of far flung travels such as your plans to visit your girlfriend in China (is this what my taxes are going towards???) are just dreams!! You have been geting buck shea council tax and now you want housing benefit aswell..... the nature of your question raises many questions not least what will you do if someone says yes your girlfriends status will affect your claim??? Lie? Work the system? I realise my post will no doubt unleash the wrath of some members onto me but I for one have had enough. What if we all sat back and claimed benefits for everything?? Well I for one am proud not to cheat my way through life, I was brought up to have pride in working and providing for myself!! I guess my parents got it wrong!! Rant over!!Debt free = December 2010...as of March 2006 it is now January 2010..... as of December 2008 it is now December 2009 :j hopefully sooner!!:jDEBT FREE:j January 2012, took longer but I got there, all by myself, through sheer hard work and pride!0 -

Yes H/B and C/T benefit are linked on computer system, You will get found out, You can calim H/B without your L/L knowing as LHA is paid to tenant.
You need to let H/B know you live there.0 -

technically yes, but I have a rent book (not a contract) so my landlord DID have to sign a very bizarre form basically to confirm the rent amount and what was included (e.g. water, council tax etc).
AFAIK, Living with a student means you'd be allowed a single person discount on your council tax (25% off) as they simply don't count as a person
 so you're "living alone".
But if you screw the system (it's called FRAUD by the way ) you may get screwed in return..."She who asks is a fool once. She who never asks is a fool forever"
I'm a fool quite often
