Hi,
Not sure which area to put this so hope it's right.
I've just been on a website which works out your tax code and i think i'm on the wrong one. My tax code is 000647L, the website said it should be 522L. I'm a temp worker, though have been on a long term assignment, my hours vary but are between 35 - 40 hours a week, usually 40hrs and my rate of pay is £13ph.
Can anyone tell me if I am actually on the right tax code.
Thanks so much.

With the higher tax code that you are quoting there you would be paying less tax...
Tax code is based on your status, any allowances you're entitled to (basically) not hours worked, rate of pay etc.
Have you received a Notice Of Coding?
having said that the code there looks about right...where did you get the 522L code from?Don't put it DOWN; put it AWAY"I would like more sisters, that the taking out of one, might not leave such stillness" Emily Dickinson

Tax code for 09/10 is 647L so yes you are on the right code. I don't know which website you were looking at but 522L was around 06/07 code.0

647L is the 'normal' code for 2009-2010
522L was the normal code for 2007-8
647L is a lot better than 522L0 -
Thanks so much for your replies. It was a webiste called Digita which has a tax calculator, obviously not a very good one though.
Not sure what a notice of coding is but if I'm on the right tax code then no worries and have now relaxed & mind at rest.
Thanks again,

Well if you click here you should find the answers to your questions...and any more you may have. Basically your tax code tells tou the amount of income you pay NO tax on.
Always a good idea to know what you SHOULD and should not be paying out - Tax, NI etc then you'll know if your pay is correct.

This is the best website for tax calculations.

Most people on the standard tax code as you are won't receive a notice of coding from HMRC. It tends to only be sent out to those whose tax code is different from the norm.0
