Thanks for the advice - unfortunately, it wouldn't matter if the other adults had jobs or not - we split everything between three. The phone bill is huge at the moment - I have a lot of friends and family who live abroad, so I pay an extra £15 for International calls, and I'm also currently paying off two contracts, one ends in August - which I intend to cancel.

As for a spending diary I don't really buy anything I don't need anymore - I used to always get stuff, but now I find it much easier to ignore any desire to buy anything, so I guess the only thing I need to do is budget for food - which I haven't really done before.

I'm in the process of figuring out where to buy stuff that's the cheapest though, from the several shops that are in the surrounding area - but to be honest I don't think I'll actually be spending any money on food this month.

Also, the OU course provides all course materials, so I can't get a grant there - cause I don't need it I suppose.

This all sounds very negative of me... I know I need to start thinking positively.

I'm not sure if it's any help but I find ASDA to be the cheapest supermarket. We live quite far from the bigger versions of the major supermarkets but there's a tesco just down the road but as it's a metro it's more expensive than a tesco thats 30 miles away. My OH works for tesco and even with his discount and delivery cost, it works out cheaper to shop at ADSA. I do an online shop and have it delivered (as we're not in an area for ADSA to be delivered, I get it delivered to my parents house 15 miles away and go and pick it up!) I've found it to work out alot cheaper and to be honest, I found buying the value stuff for the first time less embaressing that way! :D Now I'm not bothered what brand I buy as I know that it's basically all the same stuff and now I just buy what I can afford. It's worth maybe getting things from different supermarkets though if you have the time.

Oh, thanks for the advice! I know my nearest Asda do delivery now, but I'm not sure if they deliver to my house but I will definately consider it!

Thanks for the advice! I tend to only buy value stuff when it's online too -guilty of too much pride-

Yeah it's one of those things I never wanted to do but I made a joke about it to the delivery driver and he told me that he once delivered up to £300 worth of smartprice goods to a really posh house which made me feel better about it!!
