I don't know if anyone has noticed but there is an apology from Curly and an explanation of the new points system on the Pigsback Issues forum on the site. Unfortunately I still don't understand any of it. More waffle about tripling the points and comparisons to the 'leading' cashback site ,but they don't actually say who that is.
This explanation is as twisted as Curly's tail!
Can anyone else understand it?0 -

Here it is for those who want to read itCurly wrote:1. APOLOGY
Firstly, we have done a bad job at times in listening and responding to members. For that, we are sorry. We are trying hard to do a better job. Some things still need to be changed and they will be changed very soon. We will make final tweaks on July 31st to the PiggyPoints catalogue (both Earn and Spend levels). We can’t change mid-month because it is then impossible to calculate what a member is due.

2. HOW COMPETITIVE IS PIGSBACK?
We have also clearly done a bad job in explaining where and why we are better than our competitors. But what we do know is that we are the most competitive rewards site out there.
Let us explain:
For these purposes we are comparing with the leading Rewards site, although we do look at others.
The basis on which we form that judgement is as follows:
How much does a Pigsback member need to spend at an affiliated shop to earn a £10 voucher on Pigsback.com compared to the leading competitor (we do look at others but concentrate on the big players). We obviously look at the cost of the £10 voucher first, and then we look at what it takes to earn those points in ALL of our shopping partners.

A £10 reward costs 3450 as we speak on Pigsback ... there are exceptions such as Amazon at 3150. We have obviously looked at the cost of a £10 voucher (and there aren't many of them) on our competitor’s site too.
Here is a representative sample of results as at 22/7/09.
You need to spend £287.50 in the Apple Store through Pigsback to earn a £10 voucher, but £1500 through our main competitor.
In B & Q, the equivalent sums are £191.67 in Pigsback and £1000 with our competitor.
In Comet, it's £383.33 with PB and £428.57 with our competitor.
In Debenhams’s £287.50 PB plays £750.
In John Lewis £575 PB plays £1500.
In M&S £230 PB plays £600.
In WH Smith £164.829 plays £375.

Either we are giving rediculously good value or our competitor is doing the very opposite. We think it’s a bit of both.
A few points about all of this:
1. For a long time, we have been offering more than our competitors, but have not been getting the recognition. We want to be on as level a playing field as possible with these guys. That meant we adjusted our PiggyPoints value. We're happy to make a few further tweaks in response to the good points made by our members. For example, it may be better to have a £10 voucher at 3000 PiggyPoints in ALL CASES.
2. We undertake to always at least match our competitors (other rewards sites) on this calculation, but we would like to be AT LEAST 50% better on average.
3. We change the Earn values regularly to reflect the best available deal we are getting at any point in time. These go up and down on an ongoing basis. The more you support us, the better the deal we get and the better the deal you get.
We’d like your feedback.
4. FEATURE POINTS
We actually tripled the number of feature offers when we changed the Points recently. Hopefully this will become more obvious to those of you who have complained. Our ability to offer more of these rewards is down to the levels of business we are achieving through the marketing campaigns on the site and through the shopping channels.

3. REWARD CATALOGUE
We will be endeavouring to improve the reward catalogue in a big way. We’ve started with CDs, the prices of which will be coming down as part of the end of month change.

4. IN AND OUT OF STOCK OF VOUCHERS
We stock vouchers based on the best deals we can get from retailers at a given point in time. There is almost no such thing as a permanent reward item, although we do our best and will try to improve this.

5. PLEASE SUPPORT US
It is a challenging business trying to balance what we earn and what we give back with the need to pay for a support operation in between. Pigsback has a small team of 6 people in its London office with support from its Dublin office. We have a relatively new manager in London, Jeremy, and he is setting a new culture of better member service. It can take a little time to shine through.
Your support and endorsement of what we do is critical to our business success and to our ability to serve you.

Thanks for your time,

Hmm ...
Interesting reading. It looks like the 'tweaks' will be a flat 3000 points for vouchers (going back to the 1000 point equivalent), but it remains to be seen if the available points will be forthcoming.0 -
They obviously have a good team of editors working for them

I reckon...... 2 ipoints per £1 at apple store.
3,000 (familiar?) ipoints for a £10 arcadia / argos voucher.
i.e. £1500 spend required for a £10 voucher.
Main competitor?! Yes they both use "points" but there are a huge number of sites vastly superior to both. Hardly fair to pick a fantastically bad-value site as being your main competitor.
Quidco, topcashback anyone?0 -
You are right. Curly has confirmed on the Pigsback forum that i-points is the site they compare themselves to.
They seem to be replying to posts on their forum today so get over there with any comments if you want them to know how you feel.
And I agree that Quidco and Topcashback are better value for purchase cashback offers, but you don't get the competition opportunities there that you do on Pigsback , and who knows , one day I might win one.:rotfl:0
