In debt - financial associations on Credit Report

Hi all,
Me and my partner have a disagreement about whether my debt should affect his credit.
The basic gist of it is that I have 3 defaults and am trying to pay these off via a DMP. The only financial association we have is on a loan that gets paid in full next month.
When this is finished I was going to fill in the forms for disassociating him from me (or vice versa!). However looking at the forms, it asks whether you live at the same address.
Because we do (no other links between us after next month), will they knock it back and still have us linked?
Also, he was recently refused credit because of the current link, but the letter from the loan company says that he was refused because of "adverse credit history at the address".
Does this mean that when there's no other links they could still go off the address. Is there a law or something that says they can or can't?
I'm sorry if I'm rambling on a little, but we need to know one way or the other.
Hope you can offer any advice.
Thanks
