1st Appointment with the vicar next week

Me and H2B meet with the vicar the middle of next week to confirm dates and go through things and to pay the deposit.
I am not religious, have never been christened, h2b has, but never goes to church unless there is a funeral. He insisted we got married in a church as I was more than happy with the registry office.
Its a unitarian church we are marrying in. We have to attend church 3 times before the wedding and for a wedding rehersal.
Will the vicar ask about hymms, songs or readings that we would like? If so, I'll be stumped. Would we have to have these? I know the organist is included in the price as is a choir will he ask what they should play/sing?
Can anyone offer a bit of advice.
Reading that back I sound a bit dumb, but i like to be prepared. I feel a right hypocrite marrying in a church but thats what h2b wants

Hi Rinroo!
The vicar may well ask about hymns and readings and I think that if your getting married in a church then you'll be expected to have these as part of your service. Whether you HAVE to have them, I'm not sure.

we have got our 1st appointment next thursday i was wondering this as well. We went to see him last month but could sort anything out as h2b had lost his divorce papers so had to go to court n cost us £400

If I were you, I'd ask to borrow a hymn book and ask if they have other orders of service you can borrow. Priests and vicars will always have an idea of what sounds 'right' at a wedding.Don't worry about typing out my username - Call me COMP(Unless you know my real name - in which case, feel free to use that just to confuse people!)0

Im not religious at all but my fave hymm is Dance Said Wherever You May Be (something like that anyway!). I went to my future step daughters Easter choir service last week and I had a good old sing song to it.
Dont know why im teling you that

From what I've hear Unitarians are pretty open minded and relaxed, you've probably picked the best one for your beliefs. You may well be able to have non-religious music and readings.Got married 23rd May 2009, many thanks to all on the Weddings and Anniversaries board for their help and support!

Thanks for the replies.
I might have a brief search of popular hymms and readings, so at least i have a bit of a clue, but then just see what the reverand says. The only thing I know about him is he's American!0 -
Justsay you are unmdecided as yet and ask him what he suggests.
He is going to know better than anyone else what the best wedding hymns and readings are.Cross Stitch Cafe member No. 32012 170-194 2013 195-207.Hello Kitty ballerina 208.AVA 209.OLIVIA 210.ELLA 211.CARLA 212.LOUISE 213.CHARLEY 214.Mother & Child 215.Stop Faffing Completed 2014 216.Stitchers Sampler. 217.Let Them Be Small 218.Keep Calm 219. He may well ask you if there are any you prefer, but a lot of priests will know what readings are popular and well-received.
I was in John Lewis (other dept stores are available!) the other day and they had some little books with popular readings and songs in. You could go and have a look through those - easier than trawling through the whole Bible!Married Ajichombo on 17th April 2010 :j0 -
I am having a church wedding and found this site useful:
http://www.yourchurchwedding.org/hymns-media-player.aspx
They have MP3s of popular wedding hymns and readings so it might help. We are not religious but I have actually enjoyed attending church and having a sing song before the wedding lolTotal for 2009: L'Oreal Lip Duo, Diary, Motability Guide
Thanks to everyone who post comps - you are all :cool2:0 -

yay, that's Lord of the Dance! We're having that as our final hymn
OP, good luck with the meeting - ours is in a couple of weeks. He'll prob want to talk to you about hymns, readings and timings. He will know what the usual wedding hymns are - and you'll prob be surprised from how many you remember from school - ie Morning Has Broken, All Things Bright and Beautiful etc.0
