Our Moulinex Ovea which we have had for only a month produces so much scum - we are currently using a saucepan . Any recommendations for a better kettle to buy? I knpw we live in a hard water area but have never had problems with kettles before.

We don't fill our kettle straight from the taps, as we have the same problem....
So we use a Brita filter and once the water is filtered we pour it into the kettle. Such a great trick and no "scum" woo hoo
Hope this helps

Breville JK64 White Filter Kettle with BRITA Water Technology
34.95 inc delivery from Amazon - A friend has one - he says its quite good - I live in a very soft water area so never had any problems like that0 -
I bought a brita kettle about six months ago as our water is hard and tasted horrible. The best £40 I have ever spent.:)sometimes you're the pigeon, sometimes you're the statue!0

We use a Brita filter jug for all our water, it makes an amazing difference and saves on descaler for the kettle“I tell you, we are here on Earth to fart around, and don't let anybody tell you different.”

Thanks - we do use a Brita water filter to filter the water first - maybe try the Brita kettle0

Its not the kettle causing the residue, it's your water."There are no pockets in a shroud..."0

Can I ask a stupid question??!!
I don't have any filter system at the moment. I was looking at buying the Breville filter kettle (£50 at Argos for the JK66 model - if anyone seen cheaper let me know??!!!), but the cartridges at £4 a shot (which need to be replaced every 4 weeks) is going to make this a very expensive exercise!
My question is if I buy a filter kettle (I want a good make), can I use this to filter my tap water to drink as if I had a separate water filter and fill up plastic bottles to put in the fridge for drinking water? I presume the kettle works like a normal water filter until its plugged in and starts boiling?
So, I am trying to work out if its more cost effective to buy a water filter jug and a separate cheaper kettle and fill up the kettle with the filtered water?! Or just buy a more expensive kettle with the filter already in it?
What do you think?0 -
I puchased my water filter system from Wickes for about 29.99 (or was it 39.99?) as it's better looking than B+Q
The replacement cartridges are a tenner from B+Q (which is cheaper than Wickes!)
You only need to replace them every 6 months or 20,000 lites. I've been using one for about 5 years and it's great.0 -
Cuffie - I use a Brita water filter jug for all my drinking water, even before boiling it in the kettle. I buy cheapie kettles that probably last about 18 months before dying - but they don't get limescale!
Dust from teabags can make cups of tea scummy, so I always shake them out before use!"Cheap", "Fast", "Right" -- pick two.0
