Vegetable oil is slightly cheaper than sunflower oil, but - for general purpose cooking - which is better?
The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life.

Depends what you're using it for and if you're concerned about your saturated fat intake.
Not sure which one has the highest flash point (the temperature you can heat it to before it catches fire).
Sunflower oil has more polyunsaturated fat than vegetable oil, but if you're the kind of person that keeps oil in a pan and reuses it, with each reuse the fat will become more "saturated"0 -
Stephen I'm very much still learning but Wikipedia gives great info here Says all about the smoking points and what is best for what. It confuses me a little too!
Thread on oils
Hope that helps.A little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men

I heard (can't remember where) that Rapeseed oil had the same health attributes as Olive Oil but at a fraction of the costs. I use Rapeseed for all uses but must admit, olive oil is nicer for a salad dressing0

Thanks, Bunny200! I've just compared the fat analysis etc of the two oils and rapeseed oil actually looks better. Mazola's rapeseed oil is £1.98 for a litre in Sainsburys. I'm going to give it a go for bread making and shallow frying and see how it goes.Life is not a dress rehearsal.0 -
Rapeseed oil, known in America as Canola oil, has had a questionmark over it for the last 25 years.
Make up your own mind, just be aware.
