Mystery phone-call

The company may exist.
But who says the caller was from the company?
Play it safe and ring your card company for a replacement.0 -
A couple of points....i had a phone call out of the blue today from some company claiming that i was entitled to monies from loans/Mortage,
So, out of the blue, a company that knows very little about you tells you that you are entitled to claim money. Did they see your agreements? Did they analyse your debts and how you purchased them? Or did they just tell you that you could claim?
You have the right to shop around and use any business which carries out this service as different firms use different charging structures, whichever suits you best. You can also make this type of claim yourself and go through the Financial Ombudsman Service. Under our rules the business should not make claims that the claimant will have a more favourable outcome if the services of the business are used rather than the FOS.
They cant make that claim as statistically, claims companies have a lower success rate than individuals handling their own complaints. No-one knows why for sure but opinion is that firms react better to personalised letters and not template letters and many claims companies are known to be dodgy and that means the complaint is treated with a bit more cynicism than a personal complaint.
The first four digits of the card are the same with certain banks and certain card types.
The MoJ is a weak regulator and a large number of claims companies are running riot doing what they want and saying what they want. Getting authorised by the MoJ is a doddle and getting them MoJ to act on bad companies is near impossible.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). I wouldnt read too much into the SIC code being wrong. Happens all the time with Legit companies. Also, if they are coldcalling, then they could have classed this section of thier business in the telecommunications arena so not necessarily dodgy in that respect, and the accounts and returns are up to date.
That said, the OP does sound dodgy, instinct is a far better barometer.0 -

No on the contary they seem to know all my previous finacial actions
Addendum .I will cancel the card, but i am still wondering if i am indeed owed any money
from these mortages or cards the first mortage dates back to 1982 is it to long ago to make any claims on this0 -

Anyway, I'd say 'scam' - a friend of mine on another forum reported getting a similar type of phone call, and nearly falling for it before realising that something was fishy. They were after the security code that time, too, and already knew pretty much the full card details - all they needed was the security code and they were good for a 'card not present' fraud spending spree...Never underestimate the power of the techno-geek...0 -

In which case there is probably a breach of data protection. A lot of claims companies have been set up by ex financial services staff who have taken client details with them.
If you are concerned about the level of detail they knew about you yet have no personal connection with that company then you could complain the data protection commissioner. Whilst a lot of generic detail is available about you, specifics wouldnt be.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. The following thread from last year might help:
http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=1255573
Just out of interest have you ever taken out an extended warranty on a mobile phone or gaming console?
Might be they are using the mailing list from their extended warranty business to drive PPI mis-selling cold calls.
Doesn't sound like you card is compromised, just possible sharp selling practices (IMHO) from them.
If you have been missold a PPI policy, then you would be better using the advice on this site to reclaim rather than relying on a company who may be using misleading information and cold calling to extract "admin" fees from you until possible false pretences.

The Truth about 1st Line
I am the Managing Director of First Line Services (UK) Ltd. I'd like to start with we do not monitor this site, the challenge we have is that when potential clients put our name into a search engine such as google, this site appears in the sites found section.
This is a message to all clients or potential clients of First Line Services (UK) Ltd: -
We have been established since January 2007, we first started out offering warranties on mobile phone handsets and electrical products, such as playstations, xboxes, and laptops etc. Early in 2008, we applyed to the Ministry of Justice to be come regulated by them as we wanted to start providing a service rather than sell and market warranties. We have been regulated since August 2008 and have been offering potential clients the chance of claiming back unlawful charges on any loans, finance of credit cards that they may have taken out over the past 6-7 years. Yes we require an admin charge to process the claims pack, but this admin charge is refunded along with any clients unlawful charges.
Once one of the account managers has spoken with any potential client and the client wishes to proceed, no monies will be taken unless the client has spoken with one of our experienced Quality Control executives, in which all calls are recorded.
I am very dissappointed with anyone who would put comments on here, that we are a scam, all we are trying to do is claim back unlawful monies for clients who were unaware that their bank, building society or finance company have unlawfully taken off them.
I hope this clears everything up for anyone who is unsure about our successful company.
If not please do not hesitate to contact me on my private mobile during working hours on 07970 747017.
Regards
Mr Anthony Winchester
