If my DH did the food shopping we would spend £50 pw max, as it breaks his heart to spend money:rotfl::rotfl:
So I do the shopping & try & do it for £100 per week.
Did I mention he likes the best of everything:rolleyes:

We are a family of 2 adults and 2 young children. One is in nappies 'full time' and the other part-time.
We spend about £75-80 per week. But that does include washingpowder/shampoos/tissues/nappies/baby wipes/bin bags&other houshold items also.
I think this is very reasonable.
I try to buy the cheapest brand of everything,so there isn't much I can change really.
The halal meat/chicken (we buy it from Tesco) is quite expensive, maybe if you don't eat halal you could get away with cheaper. (just yesterday I saw that Tesco do chicken nuggets for 40 p lol and the halal ones are about 3 pounds)0 -
We ( 2 adults, 2 dogs and 3 cats) spend about £75 a week (Most of that is Pet foods!!! oh and Heat Mag!)
We always do a meal plan for the week and only ever buy 2 packets of biscuits as a treat!(how tight does that make me feel)
Also both OH and I don't buy out our lunches at work ( packed lunch for hubby and last nights left overs for me)0 -
I expect there won't be much chicken in there Yasmine!0

I spend or at least I'm trying to keep to £300 a month on the grocery challenge, but that also includes my monthly box of wine;).That's for 6 of us, but it is getting harder and that's with a lot of planning, and not buying decent ham, bread and cheese which my hubby would live on. Also I've noticed most of my money seems to go on the top up shops. Ithink your doing pretty well, but maybe write a list before going and only buy what's on the list, unless your absolutely sure the offers would normally be used. Good luckGrocery challenge june £300/ £211-50.

Its just me and my partner but we spend £200 a month
it sounds so much when all you guys are feeding a family of four for the same amount. We do cook alot from scratch but also buy ready meals and snacks alot. Plus that money includes spends during work (breakfast and lunch) I know i can cut down from this through!! 0 -
Hi there,
perhaps it is not as much as I thought.... Although this is just a guess amount as I am awful for stuffing the receipts into bags and never looking at them again and then they end up in the bin...
However as we are soon to be paid I think that i will set the budget for £200 and keep all the receipts so that I know exactly what we are spending. I like the idea of menu planning and have done this in the past but got out of the habit, I think that i will have to give it another try though. I hate coming in from work and then trying to figure out what we should have for dinner, we then usually just end up opening a tin or having a sandwich..

Thanks for the link I will go and have a look..
Jane, when you say that you spend about £35 a week can I aks what you are getting for that and what meals are you all eating. I just wondered so that i can get some idea.
Thanks,
Bella x
This week I got a couple of ready meals, a pizza, oven chips, chicken pieces, cooking sauces, cheese, mince, yogurt, pasta, biscuit bars, crisps, cake mix and frosting (birthday coming and no spare time to make a cake properly), bubble bath, loo roll, croissants, a couple of batches of cakes as puds, wheelie bin liners, a mag and a paper, bananas apples and carrots.
Put like that it does not look like a lot. However I no longer buy joints from Mr T, I stopped buying marge from there out of disgust because they stopped doing the cheap low fat one (they still do the cheap ordinary one!), I don't buy coffee or tea there either, and I only buy stuff when I need it unless it is very cheap. What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare0 -
Just a thought, but I buy the 1 litre tubs of premium scoop ice cream, currently 2 tubs for £3 at sainsbury think was same in asda. I also buy tinned fruit and jelly as puds or sometimes I make flapjacks and sponge cake as treats. I also make a batch of biscuits for packs. I then buy basic hot choc and put a marshmallow in, or crackers before kids go off to bed. I also buy some frozen veg, this is a good standby. Maybe you could look at the snacky, stuff and what to replace it with. That and meal planning and lists have helped cut down my shopping bill.Grocery challenge june £300/ £211-50.
