Now THAT makes sense to me. Mmmm I was considering buying more memory for it just last week funnily enough.

Is there a prog that can 'test' ram?

I like the idea of adding (FIXED NOW) to the heading ....... would stop ppl adding to /hijacking/opening up old threads and stop me replying to them ..... :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Well as it happens...the pc conked again. :(

Just got it reformatted and reinstalled again this morning.

I seem to have a problem when it has been on for hours, that's when erratic things happen and stuff wont install properly.

This time around I had the pc switched off for ages befor attempting reinstallation and I switched off inbetween installing other progs.

Pretty sure there's some sort of hardware issue now. Will run a mem test later.

Sounds like mem to me. Mine would be fine for hours, then go bonkers on me.....

Make a bootable CD if you can and put the memtest img on it, really useful proggy to have.

Done that......testing now. If the mem is dodgy would an error show up regardless of how long the pc had been on...or would it only show after it had been on for a while and the problems stated happening?

Can't find an answer to that on the net.

Is it possible to leave the p.c on overnight?

If so, I would try set it going at about tea time (6-7pm) and leave it overnight till about 9-10pm. This gives it chance to really cycle the RAM and give you accurate results.

I can remember having to leave mine running for about 4hrs before it picked any errors up, once it started giving errors it wouldnt stop.

Lol....there was I thinking the test would be over in an hour. :)

I'll do as you suggest....it's usually on overnight as a rule anyway as I do a lot of downloading.

Thanks for the info about yours, I haven't tested the memory before so wasn't clued up about about the process.
