What kind of scam is this?

Hi all,

I posted an advert on Gumtree the other day looking for work and have had a number of responses back. Ths one caught my eye and just wondered if someone could hazard a guess as to what kind of scam it is

We are looking for a trustworthy & reliable representative in the UK that will aid as a link for cashing and remitting our payments. This is what the job is all about:

Some of our UK based clients pay us with cheques which usually take a long time & high cost to clear over here. We will send the payment to you, once you receive the payments, you will proceed to cash it at your bank or any cheque cashing facility over there, immediately after cashing each payment, you will deduct 10% out of the total funds (that's your commission on each payment received & cashed). So if you receive a payment of 4,000 pounds , 400 pounds out of the total sum automatically belongs to you (that's your pay/commission on each payment received & processed).

The balance 90% will be remitted to any of our agents or affiliates in need of the funds by then following our instructions. The payments you'll be receiving will be in the form of certified bank cheques, so that will make it easier for you to cash. You will process at least 2-3 orders Per week depending on how fast you are able to cash & remit funds, and this will make you earn a minimum of 500 pounds untaxable cash in hand weekly.

You also do not need to buy any kind of kit whatsoever from us, and this does not involve any of your personal money in anyway, so be rest assured that you will not be asked to put your money into this. I would like to know if you are interested, respond if you will like to work from home (part-time) and get paid weekly without leaving or affecting your present job.

(PAY IS GOOD) if you are interested, forward the details below to my email address.

REQUIREMENTS:
Full Names................
Full Address (NOT P.O.BOX): ....................
City & zipcode:
....................

Country:.....................
Home phone...................
Cell phone...................
Age..................
Sex................
Present occupation (If any)..........

We will not for any reason ask for anyother details from you. I would be expecting your email ASAP if you are interested in this job offer so we can proceed with your application processing.

I can see that it is a) completely illegal and b) wouldn't consider it for a second but I am a bit confused as to what kind of scam it is :o Might just be me being a bit thick lol

Its just a classic "cheque" scam.

You get a cheque and you bank it. You see the cheque amount on your balance, you then send back the 90%. The 90% you send back is not a cheque, its cleared funds, like Western Union or paypal, meaning that when its gone, its gone (unlike the cheque).

Later on (be it months or years) the cheque is found to be fraud and they take back the 100%.

So you lost the original cheque amount and the 90%.

Look at it this way, if thats good a deal, why not do it themselves?

There seems to be many scams going on now. People really have to be careful to avoid ID theft.
I was shocked how much I was able to save just by living below my means.
