Going to sound dense here amongst the gardeners on this thread, but I'm just starting out
My garden is a jungle and at the moment not 'plantable' but my son would like to grow herbs. Until the garden is sorted out over this summer, could these herbs be grown in some sort of pot with a bag of compost stuff from B&Q? The herbs included are all the ones I use (I'm a cook not a gardener!!)

Yes they would do fine in the pots. You might want to take a look over on the gardening thread and see pics of MrsMcawber's "potio". She grows all sorts of veg in pots. If you have a look through too there's ideas on not spending much on pots - getting them for free from asda and tesco for example and how to use empty milk cartons etc. (will go look for a link)
