Hi everyone - only joined last week - I love this site!
I too have saved 20p's for a few years now and save them in a little smiling frog money pot. When its full it holds about £15 and then I change them at the bank. I keep doing this until i've got about £50. We have always used them for me and hubby to go out and have a really nice meal at a lovely hotel or restaurant and its like having a free meal. Its become second nature to me now to put 20p's in my frog!
I also save my bits of change in a 3litre vodka jar (yes the vodka was lovely too). The last time we emptied it (the kids count the change) there was £121 in there and I banked it in the kids account. It's nearly full again and I will bank it again - our savings goal .......... a weekend at the Alton Towers Hotel/Center Parcs.
By doing this it encourages my boys to save their own money too. They see the 'pennies pot' as I call it, in their account, they see the interest added and get to have a 'free' holiday when we get to goal.
Does anyone else do this?:j Pennies Pot £121 saving for Alton Towers Hotel/Center Parcs0 -
At work for 11 hours today so no spending for me (so no new 20ps!). Like the idea of a "free" treat winkasgirl - might inspire me to try for that. At the moment, I'm not sure what I'm saving 20p coins for - want to choose something specific because I think it will mean more then (I like the idea that I'm saving £2s for my holiday spending) - ideally I'd like a "cheap-ish" treat for me (Is that greedy? Probably...!!!).
Any ideas?!

-How about an accessory that you normally wouldn't buy as it would seem a bit extravagant?
-Or have a manicure/eyebrow wax/<insert appropriate/desired treatment here!> by a beautician who works from home as they seem to be cheaper?
-A lovely bottle of body lotion & shower gel?
-An expensive pair of sexy knickers! :rotfl:
Personally I'm saving mine just to bank and chip away at overdraft however I really want some of the Dove "cherry blossom" (I think it was called that) shower gel that I saw in Sainsburys but I couldn't justify putting it in the weekly grocery trolley....so that may be on the cards...! Oh and for some reason as well I want some Macleans Detox toothpaste! :rotfl:Bank Balance: In the black for the moment.
Sainsburys Loan: Cleared July 2010
Credit cards: AMEX Airmiles Card: direct debit set to clear balance monthly

Pls include me in. I'd like to claim backdated entry since I've been saving 20p coins for years... I have them in a one gallon whisky bottle (empty except for the coins  ).
About three years ago it was around a third full and my mate counted them for me... it contained, from memory, around £300. It's now over half full so, I guess, contains £450.
However, I must confess to "cheating". I was getting a little frustrated at how slowly it was growing so a couple of months ago I also started including 10p coins!
Does that disqualify my membership or offer me just "associated" membership? Please be lenient with me0 -
Hiya LookingAhead
Thanks for the reply - you're right, actually - I can think of a bubble bath I fancied but refused to put in the trolley last week, so maybe I'll go for that (or maybe I'll just dream of the sexy knickers!!!!!).
I like the idea of a manicure, too (although I hate the idea of somebody charging me to file my nails, so maybe I'll save for a fancy bottle of new nail varnish and do it myself!!).
"Macleans detox toothpaste"...not seen that yet, but I'll keep an eye out for it and consider it - never say never...!!

Blimey BertieMeldrew - I think that awards you something akin to "God" status - £300 is amazing...the mere thought of £450 makes me bow down and worship!!!!
Including 10p coins doesn't disqualify you at all - it just reinforces your monmeysavingexpert-ness!!!

"monmeysavingexpert-ness" - clearly I can't spell this late at night - sorry!!!
