Positive Thinking Is The Key

Hello all, Yet again wanted to thank everyone for all helpful advice and tips I received after my first postings on Sunday (after a lightbulb moment brighter than Blackpool illuminations!).

I just wanted to say what your support and my positive thinking can do for a girl. I was full of doom and gloom, once I finally twigged how much I owed, but then I knew that I had to turn it around to benefit my family and I.

Well to cut a long story short - I have had two no spend days, I painted my bedroom on Monday (paint bought ages ago), and cleaned my house top to bottom - to take my mind off situation. Put a mirror up (again, sat in utility waiting to go up). My house now looks fab! Also decided to join Slimming World to lose the excess weight that the good life has given me (along with the debt). So my targets are to: Lose 4 Stone, cut debt by £10,000 and gradually repaint one room a month of my house, all in 12 months!! Can you do it, I hear you say. Well do you know what, thanks to you guys and my stubborn nature (taurean). I THINK I CAN.....

  • Well done Lucifer, I only have half positive thinking. Positive where my debts are concerned but severely lacking in all the "jobs" that need doing ( I have a list as long as a football pitch) and never get round to doing any of them, just stare at my list. Must try harder..must try harder.....

Hey Duncans-mum. U can do it! I always thought I was too weak to diet, would sort out finances later, and my house was lived in (ha ha). but you know what just 2 days in (long may my willpower continue), I feel better that I am doing something about the areas in my life that I deluded myself that I was in control of.

Just Look at the first 7 items on your list, ignore the rest for now - and do one a day (or one a week if they are big jobs). That way you chip away at the jobs, without looking at the bigger picture.

I am doing exactly that £1 or 1lb either way each time I lose 1 - then i am 1 nearer my target rather than £28K or 56lb.

Thanks for your post Lucifer I really have hit a bit of a brick wall today..really got overwhelmed by it all,but reading your post has kicked my MSE butt into gear again..This debtbusting lark is worse somedays than packing in the fags...and I'm trying to do both together I would NOT recommend it unless your OH is extremely thickskinned or very hard of hearing to escape all the cursing... :rolleyes2

I am glad D&DD. Can't say I know what it is like to give up smoking, but if it feels the same as being on a diet - I sympathise!! Thats why we are here to do it together.

sounds great. Regarding housework and stuff, if anyone has heard of the fly lady, then that is a good thing to get into. I was into it last year, but not so much this year, although I do try to stick to some of her motto's. You break things down and do things in small chunks rather than trying to do it all in one go, feeling hopeless so just don't bother.
In saying that I'm a bit in that frame at the moment, but I blame my pregnancy right now.

It is good to stay positive with all of it, even the evil debt, although not always possible.

    Good luck

Congratulations on the pregnancy. Up until now thats the only time I had a really tidy house. I think they call it nesting!!!

Cor not only are houses going to be spanking (and worth more), but once our debts are paid off - we will be older, wiser and have more money to save - not spend...
