Help! Broken Glass on Ceramic Hob

Options
I was wondering if anybody could help me!!

The glass on the ceramic hob on our cooker has just broken. We've been online, and although the glass seems fairly standard for our make (Creda c366ew), the prices seem to be about £134 before postage to NI. There also seems to be no delivery possible for this week (with Easter & low stock levels, etc), so we're stuck without a hob to use. Does anyone know of...

a) anywhere in NI that we could drive to, to buy & pick up the glass ourselves (preferably anywhere in the North Coast, or even in Belfast).

b) anywhere in NI that dismantles old electricals and sells the spare parts (like a car scapyard, only for cookers )

c) anywhere that would be cheaper online - we've tried various sites and they're all the same price. Maybe a generic brand of ceramic glass that fits standard 60cm cookers?

Thank you so so much to anyone that could help! I really don't fancy shelling out that much, but can't do without the hob for very long either!
:) Be nice - it's free! :)

Don't know about prices but they will order up replacement parts for you if they don't have it in stock. I got them to get me a replacement glass door for a Creda oven a year or two ago and a replacement knob insert recently.

you could maybe try calling ur house insurance and see if they will cover it?
love you lots like jelly tots :o
  • Thanks for your help guys. I really appreciate it.

rjh090384, thanks for your sugggestion - unfortunately we don't have contents insurance :(

Al64, thanks for the number - we tried it, but unfortunately they didn't have it in stock, and although they could order it, it was going to take a day or 2 longer than if we ordered online, and the price was the same. It's still good to know a local number to try should we need it in the future (hopefully won't!).

We tried Freecycle, not really expecting anything, but someone has very kindly offered us the glass from their old hob, so we should be cooking again by tonight :D

  • Hi, if it was a built in hob it might be covered under buildings insurance as fixed glass?
    Worth a try.
