postal returns

Hello,
i was wondering what is the cheapest way to send a parcel back to manufacturer (return to base guarantee) with a proof of some sort (such as 'signed for' option).

The item is an Hard disk, smallish box, weight around 900g. Needs to be sent to Ireland (which I guess has not the same UK tariffs) as it does not work anymore and is inside its guarantee period.

But I also wonder in general what people use, given sending it back to base seems expenive compared to the cost/value of the item itself!

you could ask for a proof of posting certificate, which is free, but i don't think it's insured... maybe check the royal mail website?
The word is BOUGHT, not BROUGHT.
    It's LOSE, NOT LOOSE.
You ask for ADVICE not ADVISE.

I found some info for you here:
http://www.royalmail.com/portal/rm/content1?catId=400031&mediaId=23500721With the info that you have supplied it will cost you £3.60. I think you should opt for extra compensation but it will cost you a further £1.75. Total = £5.35 :)

I went to the post office and the cheapest price was 5.01 (parcel) + 3.50 (or thereabout for the signed for service).

The catch is that it was sent to Ireland and they have different (higher) prices respect to UK.

What I was wondering is if it was more convenient use a courier of some sort.

A courier would cost a fortune as its out of the UK, they usually charge a £15 extra premium for Northern Ireand

Yea sending things from the UK to Ireland will incur higher charges.

Are you looking for price or convenience? I am pretty sure that RM will offer both for that price.:) The other couriers such as City Link, DHL, TNT will charge you more, however they will be more secure and more reliable than RM, especially with some (minority) posties stealing your mail or mail not being delivered. :(
You can also check the progress of your consignment online too.
