Your best bet is to ring them and ask what they will accept - do you have your birth certificate, marriage certificate or any professional membership - that may be enough with the usual council tax documents, bank statements etc.0

Provisional licence would not be accepted anyway. You will need to renew your passport. Photo ID is a must.
Other documents mentioned by Gazza can not be accepted.

With respect, you need to be asking the specific mortgage lender, rather than opinion on a public forum.0 -
Andy is correct, it varies from lender to lender, I get this problem too.Bless Martin's Little Cotton Socks. I thank him for giving us MSE. Look what its grown into!

In fairness many people have neither a driving license or passport so lenders can't insist on these particular formats - I agree with Andy best bet is to ask your mortgage lender

Some places will accept an expired passport, some won't.
In theory they should - you had to pass all the checks to get your passport in the first place. The fact you haven't bothered renewing it should be irrelevant. Tell them your passport expired and you haven't renewed as you're not travelling overseas anytime soon and see what they say.0 -
Accepting out of date passports is an FSA fine just waiting to happen. Some places will accept an expired passport, some won't.
Driving licence and passport are the two easy forms of ID but they are not the only ones.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). My friend had a similar problem. She didnt have a diving licence of passport. They had to get a letter from the tax man and from her employer and then wait for a form from the tax man. It took ages! It would be quicker to renew the passportThe will to save every money saving penny we can0

It doesnt require a specific letter. The last PAYE code notification should suffice.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA).
