Best Base Rate Tracker - where?

Sorted a cracking deal with HSBC for my son last year, but in the end didn't get the property, and that product has of course disappeared.

Looking again now, anyone been looking at trackers latetly can point me to the best deals about just now please? We will be ok for 75% LTV....

NW have 2.88 @3.0% APR, anything else comparable?

thx Nb

A tracker now at 3% above base? Not the best of moves I fear. Your choice of course but far better to consider a higher rate over a long period. Only my opinion. Remember when rates get back to 5% you are then paying 8% and so on. Trackers were great (as it has turned out) when rates had somewhere to go on the downward side, but what do you find attractive about them now?

I would have to agree with hearts about how unattractive these are now - one option you could look at would be First Directs Offset Tracker which appears to be about the same as NW - I think I have also seen these advertising a 40 year term lifetime tracker at 3.2% - just check their website if you think you could make use of the offset facility.

Hi hearts and Gazza, thx for your msgs.

Everyone was telling me to fix last year - it was the new fashion it seemed, but I stuck my neck out, and kept to my hunch that rates would go down and they did, I got a 0.88% tracker for life of loan....just missing the 0.50% trackers that had just gone, but everyone was still mad on fixing even tho the fix rates went up fast in the melee to secure them...

I can't see any unmissable fixed deals at the mo (tho I admit I've not looked much at them,) as I don't need or like fixed deals, things change a lot and I like to be flexible to keep up....just my preferance...and many of my fixed friends are looking for the get out as they wept when the BR came tumbling down. But hey, swings and roundabouts and all that....

Don't need or want a long term loan....(*shudders at 40 years*) and will have to be cashing in my offset stash for new deposit, but may keep an offset facilty, as it has served me well.

NW deal is 3 yr BR tracker then reverts to SVR, so can't see this will be that bad as svr will follow base anyway...

Do you think we'll be back up to 5% BR in under 5 years?

Update, NW also offer svr guaranteed no more than 2% above BR 2.5% APR as of now.

so...SVR is the new Tracker methinks...maybe - but only for existing customers...booo

*Thinks* ....Isn't their advert the one that goes on about offering everyone the existing customer deals?

or have they withdrawn that advert for now to do the opposite?
