    Years ago, i was only contract 4 hours but i wanted full time work and was on JSA. If i did any over time it would be deducted.

    I was at the jobcentre today with the exact same enquiry.
    The answer was that anything i earn over the £5.00 mark will be deducted from my allowance.
    Im also starting a steps to work self employment course soon so hopefully that will be my next step! so to speak!

    Hope this helps clear the matter up:

    someone making a claim to jobseekers allowance may complete part time work of less than 16 hours per week.

    If this is done, then as far as the JSA money is concerned, £5 is disregarded but then the rest of the wages earned are deducted pound for pound. This may mean that the customer doesn't receive any JSA money that week.

    However the claim stays open, keeping the NI contributions paid.

    the customer must still show that they are seeking, and available for Full time work (that is the conditionality of the benefit)

    A customer doing the above, is not cheating the system, committing benefit fraud or receiving full JSA on top of their wages.

    JSA = Job Seekers Allowance

    If you're working then you're not exactly job seeking. And if you are working and claiming JSA then it's called Benefit Fraud.

    what a crappy answer. You can work and declare it thats what i was meaning. Its the wondeful sum of a fiver thats hasnt risen in years it seems along with inflation.

    Exactly, and more than that what they are actually doing is maximising the likelihood of getting a permanent full time job and getting off benefits and no doubt having to explain themselves over and over to the countless people who assume everyone on benefit is a lazy fraudster. ;)
