Permanent makeup - tattooing eyebrows etc

I've been wondering about having my eyebrows 'improved' with permanent makeup (tattooing) for some time. My eyebrows are frankly rather pathetic - even my father asked if I'd been trimming them!
It seems very expensive though - about £450 which seems an awful lot in comparison to regular tattoos. I wondered if anyone else has had it done and found anywhere less expensive, also any warnings?

If I did have it done, and it worked out well, I could be tempted to have permanent eyeliner too. I've never been able to wear eyeliner without looking like a panda on a few hours at most. Again it seems to be over £400 in the places I've found so any bargain tips welcomed.

I've looked around and can't find a thread with anyone discussing this so I hope I'm not causing a repeat.

Hi HanSpan! I would be a bit nervous going anywhere that seemed much cheaper than the usual price - get a view by calling several salons, indpendent and part of chain to get a view on what the usual price is. I had my lashes curled with a qualified beautician but she was offering it at a cheaper price as she was starting to offer the service for the first time (ie she was not very experienced) and it put me off having it done again as although there was no damage, the results were not great. As a result, I now think if any price is lower than the usual, it is because the therapist is either new to that particular service or new to the whole thing. Either way, I'd rather pay a little more for the comfort and reassurance of the experience!

As you are looking at a permanenet thing, I would be very careful...I would suggest going to the clinic for a couple of treatments before, and try to go by recommendation rather than price. Good luck and hope it works out!

Hi Hanspan, I have alopecia and have had both my eyebrows and eyeliner (top & bottom) tattooed on. It is expensive but for me, the benefit of it far outweighs the cost. Its amazing waking up to a made up face and not having to worry about drawing eyebrows evenly etc. The only problem I had which I believe can be quite common in people with alopecia is that they lasted nowhere near as long as the timescales given. I had the hairstroke eyebrows and while these can last upto 3 years after 18 months mine have faded that much Im drawing over the top again now. And saving up for a retouch! (The lady who did mine previously has moved away otherwise would recommend her)
Some places will offer the treatment slightly cheaper if you agree to be a model for them but their are normally huge waiting lists for this. They are much more expensive than normal tattoos because their working on your face, the inks used are completely different and they only go a couple of layers deep unlike normal tattoos. Please DO NOT be tempted to see if your local tattooist can do them cheaper, yes they probably can but I know of more than one lady ending up with navy/jet black eyebrows that went down this route and have then spent triple getting them removed and re-applied correctly!

I’ve had semi-permanent make-up done and was thrilled with the results. I’ve had both eyeliner and eyebrows done so far. My eyebrows are now the correct shape for my face which has made a big difference and I absolutely love the eyeliner, it really opens up my eyes.

I have really sensitive skin which is often irritated by wearing makeup for any length of time and this was a really great solution for me. I like that it enhances and makes the most of my own features and its very natural looking. It’s given me a really confidence boost and just makes me feel pretty!

HanSpan – what part of the country are you in? I can highly recommend someone who is predominately based at one of the private hospitals in Edinburgh however has several clinics throughout Scotland and the North of England. Prices were cheaper, if you would like further details, please let me know.

Hope this is of some help

    Hi Claire

That sounds really good. Could you give a little more information, such as cost and how long the results are expected to last?
    Thank you.

I'm in Herts but actually planning on a holiday to Scotland where I have relatives near Sterling in about a month. So nice to hear from real people who have had this done. Thanks.

Bit of an old post, ill start a new one. The wife did loads of research on this subject, she sat there for nights on end! she (we!) went on a trip to see a lady called Heidi Worman , she is held with high regard.

Her eyebrows are brilliant and its worth paying a bit more for someone like her. Time saving yes. she is very happy.

    Hope it helps you.
