Mackerel, to freeze or not

Hi everyone.
I've just bought three nice mackerel fillets in Morrisons that are suitable for freezing. I intend to eat one tonight and the others during the coming week. Will they keep in the fridge for 7 days - well the last of them anyway? I don't think 7 days is too long, but I don't want to take chances and the pack doesn't give any directions except they can be frozen. Thanks.

Be careful who you open up to. Today it's ears, tomorrow it's mouth.

Sounds to me that 7 days is pushing it a bit! If it smells a bit dodgy after a few days you will probably chuck it so I would freeze it and then you won't have any doubts. Apparently it doesn't keep for that long in the freezer though because of its oiliness, 1-3 months possibly?0

I wouldn't keep fresh fish longer than one day in the fridge and I'm speaking as someone with very low food hygiene standards. Fresh fish deteriorates so quickly.
I always put fish I'm not intending to eat the same day in the freezer;)0 -
