£500 a month cheaper to live in. Unbelievable.

Monthly living expenses at home
Rent £1,332
Gas and electricity £108.34
Water £26
Council tax £110.08
TV licence £11.63
Basic cable £16
BT landline rent £10.50
Breakfast £347.84
Basic internet £15.99
Cleaning lady £25
TOTAL HOUSEHOLD BILL £2,086.71
HOTEL FAMILY ROOM DEAL £1,496
A housewife desperate to save money during the credit crunch has chosen a novel strategy - moving her family into a hotel.
Nicola Docherty is taking husband Craig and children Ava, six, and Jackson, four, out of their London home for a month and reckons she will save around £500.
The 36-year-old came up with plan after the family decided it could not afford to go away on holiday this year because of the global financial crisis.

A hotel room would be smaller then a house though? If it is, where do they store their stuff

I do think rents will have to come down, they are partly a result of HPI and someone is going to have to lose money or go under, etc before it all adds up to a reasonable business again just like the general housing market

i think the food bill alone for the month, will rack up more than the £500 she has saved.

you arent allowed to cook in hotel rooms, so they will have to eat out every day, and thats not a cheap feat. even at a supermarket cafe it would cost a family of 4 at least £10 per meal, so thats £300 for a month of evening meals, let alone lunches and drinks on top

Also, you tire of restaurant food. I know, we tried staying in a travelodge for 2wks recently, i was dreaming about veg and simple home-cooked meals, by the time we left!

But sharing a bedroom with your kids for a month, will take some getting used too as well. You cant watch tv without disturbing them (let alone getting up to anything else :p). And the storage is a nightmare. Living out of a suitcase is no fun.

Also if they really wanted to be moneysaving, they should have booked a £9 a night travelodge :rotfl:

31 breakfasts cost £347, yeah right.

4 Boxes of rice crispies for the kids
2 Boxes of Special K for the mum
2 loafs of bread for the dad.

£20 max, Add milk/orange juice and a few sandwich fillings you have another £20 so £40 all in.

What are they eating for breakfast spending an additional £300+, golden nuggets?

They will still need to pay all the bills aswell even if they are not there:confused:

More importantly, she's hoping to get £2100 for renting it out for a month. That's 10% or so more than the going rate even before agents' fees, legal costs and tax are factored in!
Hurrah, now I have more thankings than postings, cheers everyone!

Daily Mail, need I say any more :D

Honestly, this story has more holes in it than a extremely leaky thing.
