Tesco - returning item without receipt but with bank statement

I bought a load of shopping the other day and the wine I bought is off. I threw the receipt away as I didn't think I would need it tbut I do have the bank statement. I decanted most of the wine back into the bottle so it's clear I've not just drunk it all and tried it on sort of thing...I'm not trying to get a refund but do you think they'll allow me to swap it over?

Hi, if you take in your bank statment they should be able to do a copy of your receipt from the transaction number on your statement. They did this once for me when I had to return an item but had milaid my receipt.0 -
If you have a Tesco clubcard they will have no probs looking it up on their system.
I've returned faulty stuff without a receipt and they just took my clubcard and "found" the transaction for me.

I tried this when I lost a receipt but the SA in Tesco told me she couldn't check my clubcard for the relevant purchase. I mentioned that I thought it was possible (having read on here previously) but she was adamant it couldn't be done. Was I fobbed off?
I would be interested to know if anyone else has had a successful clubcard check. Thanks0 -
Is the supermarket name on the label of the wine bottle? If so, there is your proof of purchase.0

Hiya
i'm not sure if you have sorted this out already, but if you think that there is going to be a problem call/email tescos customer services beforehand. They will be able to check the transaction for you and call the store before hand.
You should say that you would like to make a complaint - 'You've brought wine that was off, and made a wasted trip to the suppermarket where the assistant was unwilling to help you'.
I had an issue like this before they sorted it out for me and sent me a voucher0 -
Having worked for Tesco it is quite simple to find out what a person purchased by looking at their clubcard details. It does afterall clock everything you buy.
The back office system could also be checked to see what items have been purchased if given relevant details. Dont expect this to be done in busy periods though, the staff simply wont have the time so it wont be done.0
