WSL - Liteon 5005 - Argos

I have just received an e-mail from Argos telling me that this item is now in stock at £149.99. I don't know how good a deal this is at the price so have placed it on this Board rather than "Quick, Grab it".

No use to me, I used the post in respect of the Mico Recorder from Sainsbury.

I'm afraid it's a rather poor deal. A few weeks back, Argos were selling the same deck at £109 after voucher discount, as much discussed on another DVD recorder thread, also under "Cheap Buys and Shops."

Yes George, but if you read the thread all the way you will realise that it went quickly "out of stock". Many MSE's were unsuccessful.

I was only letting them know that it was now back in stock, but at a higher price.

I got it from Argos at £119.99 and I got a £10 voucher for spending over £100 so a net cost of £109.99 as I spent the £10 on blank DVD's.

It's a cracking machine and works well with my sky box. However when switched on it does interfere with the telly reception (except the picture via the sky box) but that's a small niggle as I only record through the sky box and if I watch something different on the telly simultaneously, I can live with the quality of the picture - it just goes grainy when the dvd recorder is switched on.

It's great for converting analogue video 8 tapes to dvd.

Sorry - I guess I feel guilty that I may have contributed to over-promoting the Liteon 5005 deck before I found several quirks mentioned on the other thread.

At £149 for the now-deleted 5005 model I would definitely buy the Liteon 5006 model instead, for a bit more.

I still like my Liteon 5005 for its recording quality and the user support backup for modifications, but it is starting to try even my patience. Discs recorded on my Liteon 5005 play back more successfully on OTHER decks! i.e. in terms of being able to move through tracks, etc and with fewer digital errors.
