Debt Managers Ltd

I have a debt with Marshall Ward Catalogue for just over £1000. Without any contact from MW i got a phone call from Debt Managers Ltd requesting payment in full or in two payments, I told them i do not have the money to pay them a lump sum but if they came up with a reasonable payment plan i might manage to pay it but insisted that if i don't pay it they will take me to court.
Yesterday i was in hospital after having several heart attacks in the past three months and came home to be told by my Eleven year old daughter that she had taken a message for me from DM Ltd they told her that i had to contact them immediately and gave my daughter the phone number and a reference number for me to contact them then asked her if she was a relative. Can they do this ? and where do i go from here. I am in quite poor health at the moment so don't want to get into any slanging matches on the phone.

Is there anyone else that could take the burden of dealing with this off you for the moment? I would also call NDL and CCCS - contact details in my signature.

I hope one of the experts will be along with some decent further advise shortly.

If not, I will keep this bumped for you.

In the meantime, rest assured that you will be able to get this sorted without the need for slanging matches. You may want to consider unplugging the phone while you get your plan together.

There is some very good info on catalogue debts here:

    Link: Factsheet | Catalogue debts

If it went to court you still only be able to pay what you could afford, so it's a bit of a pointless threat really.

When did yo take out the catalogue?

I have had the catalogue about two years and never had any problem paying them until now, they take no notice at all just to say you have seven days or we take you to court really can do without that just now.

Inform them of your health situation, by letter or email. they shouldn't have talked to your daughter without qualifying who she was..by their very name they give away the reasonfor their call.
because of your health sit, they may be more inclined to accept the offer that they should be accepting anyway.

Good Luck with this and your health..........just remember who the most important people are here ( a clue...its NOT DM Ltd )

The threat of legal action is a standard tactic to get you to pick the phone up and then agree to pay more than you can afford. This is the opening shot from most of the bottom feeding DCAs and it is bluff.

You will find many many posts here with very similar letters. I don't remember one that actually went to court.

Please phone CCCS or National Debtline - not the DCA- they will know what to do.

dont let them get to you, i used to work for them and i can tell you they are just threats, just write to the head office making an offer of payment....... they accept anything that they are offered, dont deal with them over the phone they are just nasty, thats why i left i wasnt nasty enough to debtors

I understand the concepts of cooking and cleaning
........ I Just dont understand how they apply to me!
