Rog...I never had you down as a jaimesons drinker (certainly NOTHING wrong though in that!)

I was never much of a 'Whisky' drinker, phil - probably because the 'blended' stuff was always too harsh and you've really got to 'know' your malts as one can be a totally different drink to another.
Many years ago, I was 'commuting' weekly to Ireland, where I discovered two things:
    • The Guiness in Ireland was a totally different drink to the insipid 'black' rainwater that was, at the time, served in the English pubs (that has, thankfully, now changed as all Guiness sold in the UK is now brewed in Ireland - the only thing left to do is to teach English bartenders how to 'pour' it).
    • Whiskey is the true 'water of life'.

Now I know I am about to get slated by a million or so true Scots, and will say, in my defence, that I have had the real pleasure of tasting some truly excellent single malts - however I do find many, particularily some of the 'Island' malts to be 'so pure' that they are almost 'anti-septic' to my unrefined palate.

However - enough of the flannel - I am, if anything, a bitter and wine drinker, but I did amass quite a large 'collection' of duty free bottles of 'whiskey' during my 5 - 6 years of regular 'commute' - it was like an 'obligation' to buy a couple of bottles every trip, even though you 'knew' you were not going to drink them.

Having decided that we need to clear out much of the 'dross' from our cupboards, I have decided that the most efficient way of disposing of my hoard of spirits is to allow them to pass through my kidneys.
