Could you confirm the situation re your mum's ex. Is this an ex-husband? Are they now divorced i.e. does she have the decree absolute?
Pension sharing is negotiated as part of the financial settlement, for divorcing couples only i.e. not an option for those not married and not an option once the divorce is finalised.

Then she needs to get started on a divorce and financial settlement via a solicitor in the UK. For the cost I should just pick a couple out of the local phone book and ring up and ask how muc for a prelimiary chat.
Does she get a UK state pension, on her own or her husband's record?
She can check that hereTrying to keep it simple...0 -
Just to clarify, the solicitor will undertake a split of all the finances, not just pensions. So their costs will be to share all the assets and finalise the divorce.
In addition, there is a scale of costs charged by pension schemes for providing information in relation to pension splitting. These will either be paid by the parties, as they agree, or billed to the solicitor, to form part of their total costs.
