Self-Tan tips?

Help!
In past summers, whatever I have seemed to use, just made me look like I had dabbed my legs with tea bags. So, how do you get the perfect self tan? I'm pale skinned and just want a bit of colour on my legs when I wear skirts and cropped trousers.
Any tips? Thanks in advance

defo start with tinted moisturiser, if you want to go darker after you've got a bit of colour from that then use one of the mist spray ones, gives good even coverage.0

Exfoliate like mad - I love the little exfoliating gloves that you can get (if you have a b&ms near you, they're 49p :j). Also, moisturise any dry areas before you apply.
L'oreal sublime broze is a great self bronzer, and it's a mid-market price. Look for one that says for pale skin and test it on an inconspicuous area, e.g. thigh. If you like the colour then fantastic, if not, mix it with a little moisturiser and apply like that.
Johnsons/Dove moisturising cream isn't bad either, just keep applying it and you'll build up a nice colour - but again, start with the lightest colour.

I've used Ecotan for the past 5ish years. It's a clear liquid spray in a bottle. I always used to get it from QVC but I'm not sure if they still sell it. It's the stuff that's used in the Harrods beauty salon, and gives a nice colour that never comes out orange. I'm also very pale but find this is fine for me.0

Hi they do still sell it though it has been re packaged now so it doenst look the same
I am also really pale and cannot put fake tan on no matter what it is, i exfoliate every two days with Philosophy and no matter what it goes streaky on me, I think it is me as I have tried everything, I am considering a spray one, though not sure I did use the eko tan spray though again it was streaky on me, I am a lost cause!Loves Vegas shopping and beauty products!0 -

I've never managed to get heels/feet right - always end up with orange around the edges of my feet and over my heels and after seeing someone on holiday last year with patchy orange legs I think it's put me off for life!
Hopefully having taken up archery this year I will be out in the sun generally a bit more and might just get a nice gradual colour naturally!0 -

Lol legs arghhh the bain of my life.....i know very few people who apply tan and get "perfect" legs myself included. I have tried them all St Tropez,Fake bake,Johnsons,Moisture tan etc i now use airbrush soloutions applied with a carpad as they offer a better streak free tan that lasts longer plus they are relatively cheap on ebay.
Problem is legs can still be a problem i always have trouble with feet especially if i wear socks or shoes, i take my shoes off and i have white feet lol,my tan is attached to my socks hehe.
Hands are a pain as well it seems you are always applying tan to the face, feet and hands that puts me of being golden can be too much work lol.
Gradual tanners like Dove are getting good press i think these are a good idea as already mentioned as you can build up the colour to an acceptable gold level before you go blotchy or streaky or fake looking.
I have already started exfoliating i exfoliate enough to scrub my skin of lol still doesnt work 100% but i still do it lol every year is the same i get excited get some more tanner, exfoliate like mad, slather on moisturiser then tan for about 2 weeks, get sick of re-applying and blotching and sweating and having to watch i dont itch, or sweat bits of tan off.
Honestly my fella wonders why i bother lol.......hmmmmm0
