Help Monument taking money out of my bank account

I have been offering a token payment of £1 per month to Monument since January, and they have been ringing saying that they will freeze the interest on the account if I paid extra, which I did, with my debit card.
Now, I know I shouldn't have done it and I should have stuck to my guns with the £1, but that's in the past now.
I noticed that an amount was missing on my bank account last week, and that the amount had been taken by them.
I specifically asked them not to keep the card details but they obviously have.
They have called me this morning to ask for another payment which I refused.
I will keep up with the £1 token payment, as advised by CCCS, but am worried about further unautherised withdrawals from my account.
What can I do?
They are also saying that I am two months in arrears now, but I have been giving them what they've been requesting,
What to do, feeling anxious about the whole thing.

The first thing I would do is call my bank and say I've lost my card, this'll mean the card details you gave monument will be useless.0

Well I could do that, but how long will it take me to get another card?
We've got the Easter Holidays, coming up, it could take a week or more.
Isn't it illegal for them to do this?
Thanks for the suggestion and if I have to take that rout I will.0 -
Why don't you call your bank and ask them? Have you called monument and asked about the payment?0

Thanks Moglie, I think anxiety can distract from taking obvious action.
I have now spoken to my bank who tell me this is entirely illegal and that they have put a note on the account so that money can't go to Monument with out my say so.
Also an address to contact should Monument try this again.
So thanks again, ringing the bank was the obvious thing to do.0 -
That's why it helps to post on here as you can get a clearer perspective on things. I hope you get it sorted. If you did get a new card though it should only take 2-3 days max. You could do it first thing Tuesday as Monument are hardly likely to take money over the weekend (or are they?!)
As somebody said on another thread it is always wise to have any money you do have in a bank that is totally separate and without any connection to a bank that you have debts with.
Good luck0 -
I would contact the bank about the unlawful amount taken from your account. As you did not authorise it ten it is theft and you should treat it as so.
Contact the bank to report the use of your card to obtain money which was not authorised and get the bank to take it vack.
i had this once as well and got the money back in the account. I only send bankers drafts to debt agencies now.0 -
Do you know how much is owed?
Is it for a bank a/c, cc, loan? Any charges?
If you are in arrears then send them 3 pounds next time if you have missed but its quite clear you haven;t! after all it sounds like a 1 is what was agreed, nice to see they can't count.
Don't get bullied, stick to paying what was agreed and not their sneaky demands.
Listen to CCC if thats who are helping you and tell them what has happened.0 -
Ms-Pacman, I haven't missed any payments at all. I have paid something, more than the £1 token, every month.
But they are saying I'm two months in arrears.
Would electronic transfer work?0
