Best for what? Price, quality, ethics?0

If you don't like the price of the product, don't buy it.
I went to Sainsburys the other week to buy the ingredients for a pasta dish, and the tomatoes were a stupid price.
I put my basket down and left.
But they are making a decent profit in these recessionary times (supermarkets do), so they probably don't care.0

I've not heard much of food producers going out of business - given that so many are squeezed by supermarkets and are dependant on loans and credit to achieve economies of scale I'd have expected to hear more on this.
Might be something we have in store.
 ETA: so to speak.0

Sainsburys are more expensive than the others as a policy - their customers generally can afford it and are less price concious. The Grocer do their mystery shopper every week into all the major retailers and its usually a toss-up between Asda and Tesco as to who is cheaper.
One tip is that the hard discounters - Aldi/Lidl/Netto are not cheaper overall. Go and cherry-pick their really good stuff (Aldi cereal is superb) but don't attempt a full shop there. They don't have the bredth of range or the own label value products that pull the basket price down in the big grocers.0

Of course, you can take Tesco to court....Anyone can.
But over what? pennies? certainly not worth it.
Best you can do is to highlight their bad pricing so others can be wary.
 Thanks for the info0

Last week I bought some rice from Tesco's for £3.59, later on I seen the same rice in the £1 shop.
