Good Friday in England is a bank/public holiday hence why so many organisations with an English/British mainland HQ take today off even though our Bank Holidays are Easter Monday and Tuesday. They are off Easter Monday as well, but open for business as usual on Easter Tuesday.0

Sorry to correct you Snowy but Tuesday is a Public Holiday, not a Bank Holiday.0

AND as if holidays here are not confusing enough....Heard on the radio to-day that the Post Offices are now closed on Good Friday as previously they opened ,,,well except some that were open todayDave0

My mum works for Halifax and she was working today, so I assume some banks were open.0

well the first trust and the Ulster were both closed for sure cause i went to both, and the post office i called to last night that had a sign on it to say "closed friday" was open today, extra confusing, or maybe just really Irish!
Car tax office was also open,
thanks everyone for ur replys,0 -

C***. For some reason Halifax has blocked my current account even though there is over £8000 in it (transferred from a N'wide account to Halifax current account with a view to me putting it into my H'fax saving account).
Having phoned the Halifax they say to go into the local branch with two forms of id to speak to someone. Bit hard to do if me and my hubby are both at work on Wed 8.30am to 5pm and they are clsoed Tues.
Think I might be moving my banking business...0 -
Eeks  I read recently on another thread about them doing this to someone. Seems there anti-money laundering practices can be a bit over egged. Good luck getting it sorted.0
