After a bit of advice

Hello,

Me and H2B have finally decided to tie the knot after being engaged for over 9 years.

I am completely clueless where to start.

I am going to speak to the vicar, the registrar and the civil venue on Tuesday after bank holiday to try and confirm a date and cost, ideally we want a civil ceremony. We are looking to get married in May next year i am praying that our date is available and the cost isnt much higher than previously quoted.

It will be a tight budget about £2000.

So apart from the date, venue, and the obvious dress, food, flowers, etc.. what do i need to consider.

are there any good wedding plans you follow or a list you have to make sure nothing is forgotten.

I dont want to seem as if i'm getting carried away but i plan on keeping costs low and to do as much as i can myself so thinking about it i need to at least make a start.

Any hints. tips, suggestions will be a big help!

I've tried to read older post but they are so long, i need a long afternoon to plough through them.

I must say one thing for my family - not one person has asked why we are bothering after all these years (12 years together in May) mind you, I would be replying 'because we want to' if anyone did ask anyway (maybe they know better hehe);)

Once you have an idea of how much your venue is going to cost, you can work out what you need from there. There is a lot of things you can get rid of an manage to stay withing budget.

One thing though - I'm sure a civil ceremony os more expensive than a religious one? (It is here anyway)You might want to check prices before you decide, unless you really want a civil one.

You will have a lot fo fun doing things yourself - I know I have, it makes it so much more personal.

Let us know how you get on:D

hi ya congrats hun , our wedding is costing £2000 and hoping to have money left out of that , saved by doing flowers myself and buying a lot of things on ebay ie my bmaids dresses were £49 each from a shop on there i bought 7 so was a lot cheaper than bridal shops ,and they came with bolero jackets too , also there was someone on here who put a posting for someone in the isle of wight who done wedding dresses for a couple hundred quid and they were gorgeous maybe someone could find the link for you , good luck in your planning xx

    congratulations rinroo!
enjoy the planning,a good place for a budget guide is www.youandyourweddding.co.uk
loads of sites have wedding budget spreadsheets which you can edit and update but I have found that one to be the best.
OH and I have been together for a long time too and it will be our 18th anniversary of meeting on our wedding day. We did get the why bother comments from our families but who cares, they are all excited about it now with 6 months to go.
re tips for saving money, avoid wedding suppliers, dont mention the word wedding when getting quotes if possible.
cake-do you like or want "wedding" cake?if you do then the cheapest I have seen are from Asda, plain white iced celebration cakes.
if you dont want a "wedding" cake then just get what you like to eat.I am having one carrot cake, one chocolate cake and one yet to be decided but if I get my way its coffee and walnut cake.Displayed on 3 cake stands of different heights.Total cost of cake under £24 then I will trawl charity shops for cake plates.
