argos settlement

i have just learned of my wifes mistake after she broke down yesterday upset and angry at her own negligence after seeing her next payment they put the 2years interest on top, she bought a 3 piece suite from argos on a 24 months interest free credit, her intentions was to pay off the outstanding balance but overlooked the letter explaining her option to clear her credit free plan by the 7th feb.

settlement amount is £800 for the item, i have no problems paying that off myself today, but when my wife was trying to talk to argos yesterday they just said that she missed the deadline and if she goes to the argos card service who gave the credit that her credit rating will be affected.

she was paying £100 a month and now it's jumped to £291 a month.

can i force them to take payment and of £800 just charge me interest from the 7th feb 2006 to 6th march 2006 only.

just spoke again to the wife to confirm details to give you people a better picture of this situation, she said she was paying £37 interest per month and know on the statement says interest for this month is £621, it jumped up £584.

please any advice how my wife can handle this situation when she phones them up would be really much appreciated, i said i would ask here first so she can be ready for them because yesterday they just did not want to listen.

i loved to said to my wife "i told you so" about argos card but seeing for the first time her crying at the reality of her stupity was not right to add salt into the wounds.

thankyou in advance.
Waddle you do eh?

I doubt there's anything you can do, a legal contract was formed at the time of purchase on the card, apart from trying to reason with them.
I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.
