Hi
I got my self £32500 in debt nine years ago. Two credit cards £30000, bank overdraft £2000, and £500 mobile phone bill. I then sold up
had a brake down and went abroad. Now im back in the uk after nine years abroad and i want to start my life again. I hear if a debt is six years old it is statotory barred! Does anyone know what this means? Does it mean its wiped clean and my credit starts from scratch? Or will i have problems in the future, regarding bank accounts ect.
I have written to the companies since i've been back requiring 6 years statements, and a copy of the legal contract but have had no replies.
Cheers.

Hi
The Statute of Limitation says that after 6 years the debt is unenforceable in the courts, providing you did not delibarately avoid the debt.
However there are vultures out there who would like to get you to pay the whole amount. If it has been sold on, then consider it unenforceable as the DCA will have paid a few pennies in the £ for the debt.
If it is the original bank, they are unlikely to have any record after 6 years anyway. If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -
