  • Well and truly blew the budget this week - doing the garden up which had needed doing for ages - spent £300 which I shouldn't have done. Also messed up my weekly spend challenge in the process.

I'm very disappointed with myself - I always start well and proud of what I achieve and then blow it big style and end up spending more than if I'd not been prudent!

    Hi Pete.

It is hard to change lifelong habits quickly so don't beat yourself up about a tempory glitch is your DFW journey. You haven't fallen off the train completely - unfortunatley you just have to keep on keeping on. Have you got anything you can sell on ebay to remake some of the £300. Clothes you don't wear, older gadgets or anything else like the trainset?

Glad to see your joining us again next week on the WSC. Remember even small steps will get you there.

Has you OH noticed any changes in your spending yet?I assume he knows you earn considerably less than him? If he does mention you seem to be cutting back maybe you could gradually introduce him to the idea that you are wanting to 'get on top of your finances' even if you don't tell him the full details of your debt.

  • Thanks Tixy. Even though I keep blowing self-imposed budgets its keeping me alert to what I am spending and I do believe its limiting the damage! I have worked some overtime the last couple of weeks so I should get something in the region of £150 towards it. I'm running out of things to sell to be honest! I have some DVD's in my collection that I no longer want but not sure what they're worth.

I have spoken to my OH about spending and he's helping. We're not eating out so much now - cut it to once a week, and he is driving us both to work more which helps, but I do still want to pay my way! I'll keep plodding on!

    Hi Pete,

Don't know about the DVDs -if you want cash maybe try Ebay or Amazon. However I saw this on another thread and wondered if it might suit you depending on how many dvds you buy (never used the service - just saw another DFWs post)

if you want to save money on DVDs, filmcircle.co.uk swaps your old ones for something new. Much cheaper than Lovefilm, plus you get the cover and disks are yours to keep. This promo code gave me 4 months free trial : WB374938E

Great news on getting your OH involved.

EDIT - just seen that all Fozzz's posts are about filmcircle - doesn't mean its no good mind (it may be a referral code so Fozzz is benefiting or I guess it could be his website.)
