Wedding Bands - rough costs?

There are plenty of suggestions for various wedding ideas here but we talk very little about money/actual costs for a money site!

I am looking at my evening entertainment at the moment and want a great band who do covers. I am looking for them to play 8-12 and we will have a friend DJ for the last hour.
Been quoted £1300.

I have worked in the events industry and I have booked many bands in my time but just for a bar and just for an hour or 2 and paid £500. They were great bands with good local following but not really of a wedding genre - just cant believe the leap to those who are wedding bands!

So do I need a reality check or is this expensive?
I miss using my infinite coupons at Tesco!
2010 was the worst year ever :(
But 2011 so far has been a lot of fun! :j

I think this is pretty much a standard cost. Are you going direct through the band or via an agency because if you can go direct it should be cheaper. We are having a large band (8 people) for about half your quoted price. They will play 2 sets for about 2 hours total. In between they will also DJ so no need for a separate DJ too.

  • that is direct

It is only a 3 piece but they are doing a ceilidh set.

How do you have an 8 piece for half the price? This is where I really wish I had some contacts! I have a photographer/cake/florist contact tho so all is not lost!

We are having a 4 pc, doing 8-midnight with some ceilidh stuff in amongst the set, for £1025. They're a really popular band and I have been to functions before that they've done and I think they're ace! It was the only thing about my wedding I wasn't prepared to compromise on, not very MSE but it's the only thing we've splashed out on!

Just let me know if you want me to PM you the details. I'm sure they'd play in Glasgow.

From looking around we'd be looking £800 and up. Can't decide whether we should have a band (and I've only budgeted £450 for this)

As soon as you mention the word wedding to anyone everything doubles in price! I wouldn't dream of spending that much on a band for a couple of hours... my DJ is costing £100 for the whole night!
