cracked eggs

Options
I opened the box of eggs and two of them are cracked. They are free range and the use by is 23rd April. I bought them on Monday and they were not cracked then, I know because I always check. I'm worried that bacteria has gotten into the eggs. Are they safe to eat or do I need to throw them out?

I wouldn't risk it either , especially if you have children the risk of salmonela and all it entails isn't worth the risk for a couple of eggs.
Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light

    Don't do it, please.
My DH was very sick last week after eating one like that. A lot of pain.

Aren't all eggs from flocks in this country vaccinated against salmonella these days?

I'd use them if they were sound when you bought them- they've obviously got bashed by something. I often have eggs cracked into a bowl sitting around in my fridge, how is this any different? Why would they be more likely to have bacteria in them than say a sausage?

I'd use them, too ;) I've never ever had food poisoning in my adult life, and I've certainly eaten the odd cracked egg.

vacinated or not, when you think where they come from and what is sticking to their shell and multiplied waiting to be sold, egg cracks - all these little gremlins get into the egg - result - eggsplosion !!!!!!

I always throw away a (rare) cracked egg. I have no idea if it is logical or not but there is something in me that won't let me use it. I'll happily eat out of date food if it smells OK, but a cracked egg is just "icky" to me so I throw it away.

It is not the hard bit of the shell which protects the eggs but the membrane beneath it. If the crack is on the air pocket and you can see the membrane is in tact then they should be fine. I've never thrown a cracked egg yet, in fact buy cracked FR ones for cooking. If he crack it on the rounded top of the egg then the membrane will probably be about .5cm below it, this is where they usually crack as it is the weakest point.
