can you make yoghurt without a starter

i have a electric Lakeland yoghurt maker and it says you can make yoghurt which i have before. last night i forgot to put the starter in it:o so is it now just off milk or yoghurt i have tasted it and it does not taste sour /bad

No, you can't make yogurt without a starter. If you pour only milk into the machine it will stay milk (warm milk). These machines aren't magic;)0
